BML: Book Mobile

Public Site

What are we about?

Early literacy is one the primary goals of our efforts on the Bookmobile. Why? Because early literacy is foundational —
all of the prerequisite skills that students need before entering school are so important. They are predictors of a child’s
educational journey.

Where do we go?

Currently we visit approximately 100 daycare, Head Start, and preschool classrooms in both Nash and Edgecombe counties — providing not only book check-out but story times in many of these locations. We also provide similar services for a growing number of early elementary classrooms.

Summer months are especially busy as we partner with the City of Rocky Mount offering story times and STEAM-related activities at parks throughout the area.  Our routes also take us to several Nash County parks and summer camps throughout the area.

We also love special community events  with an emphasis on literacy and reading.  A Day at the Mills, special back to school events, and even special read alouds with Ripe Revival are just a few of the places you might find us.

Events that allow us to support our community and promote a life-long love of reading are a definite win-win.

Who are some of the people we serve?

We are constantly on the road headed to childcare facilities, throughout the area providing storytime and early literacy activities. Reader’s advisory is also an important element of our services — assisting teachers with the books and resource
materials they need to supplement their classrooms. Need a good book? Just ask us.
